The Smithfield Christmas Parade was once again was “Main Street Holiday Magic”. We have heard the term “Norman Rockwell” Christmas Parade, many times over the last few day. Many thanks to all who came out to cheer on the 83 entries making up the event.

Special thanks to the Town of Smithfield, Smithfield Police Department, Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, Smithfield Times, C & R Services. We also appreciated the gracious presence of Grand Marshal John Edwards, Editor of the Smithfield Times Newspaper.

Thank you to Jim Groves for his 24rd year as Master of Ceremony. Can’t wait until you celebrate your 25th next year! Thank you, too, to our judges: Edward Rhinier and Rhonda and Joe Johnston, who took on that very tough task.

Moody’s AVES and Diamonds in the Rough for graciously provided clean-up at the parade’s tail end…..beautiful horses!

Hats off to Forte for performing festive music that put us all in the holiday mood.

A huge thanks to all of the volunteers who came out early to help organize the parade: Billy “Butterbean” Goodman, Selwyn Curtis, Dave Williams, Rickapedia, Elizabeth Moose, Dr. Roy Williams, Skip Sharpley, Tommy Reynolds, Bing Gatewood, and Sonja Pruitt.

I would also like to recognize the numerous students from the Smithfield High School Beta Club, under the direction of Julie Eng, who got up EARLY that morning to volunteer at the parade. There are too many kids to list them all, but I want everyone to know that they are a wonderful credit to SHS and their families.

And as always, THANK YOU to the staff of IOW Tourism: Judy, Lois, Kathy, Cheryl, Megan, Paul and Kim. Tourism Rocks!!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
