Safe Trick or Treat
Thursday, October 31 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m.
Ghosts, princesses and super heroes may get scared — but they will be safe this Halloween at Smithfield’s own Safe Trick or Treat. The annual event, one of the town’s most popular, will be held in downtown Smithfield. Businesses will provide treats to children, followed by costume judging at 6:30 p.m. on the gazebo stage in front of The Smithfield Times. There are numerous age categories for children and adults.
Those who want to enter the jack-o-lantern contest are asked to drop off their pumpkins Oct. 31 from 4 – 5:30 p.m. at The Smithfield Times. Pumpkins must include the carver’s name clearly printed and include candles inside for night judging.
Prizes provided for costume and pumpkin winners are provided by local merchants. Cookies and lemonade will be provided.
Grace Street residents also join in the fun and many houses are elaborately decorated for the evening.
Safe Trick or Treat is co-sponsored by The Smithfield Times, the Smithfield Police Department and the Smithfield Historic Business District Business Association. A town ordinance restricts trick-or-treating to children age 12 and under.
