“Remember when You used to look forward all year to Trick or Treating on Halloween night?

Historic Smithfield still hosts that quintessential Halloween experience!

So come for the candy, the contests, the creepy characters and the captivating encounter….

Halloween in Historic Smithfield has become!
Don’t miss this opportunity to show your children what the spirit of trick or treating was like…

and still is on the streets of Historic Smithfield, THIS Halloween!”

Downtown Safe Trick or Treat

Halloween Night: Friday, October 31 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m.
Trick or Treating at participating business begins at 5:30 p.m.
Costume contest at Smithfield Times Gazebo begins at 6:30 p.m.
Carved Pumpkin Contest: drop off your pumpkins between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. Judging will take place after 5:30 p.m.
Cookies and lemonade will be served.

Ghosts, princesses and super heroes may get scared — but they will be safe this Halloween at Smithfield’s own Safe Trick or Treat. The annual event, one of the town’s most popular, will be held in downtown Smithfield.
Businesses will provide treats to children, followed by costume judging at the gazebo stage in front of The Smithfield Times. There are numerous age categories for children and adults. Prizes for costume and pumpkin winners are provided by local merchants.

Grace Street residents also join in the fun and many houses are elaborately decorated for the evening.
Safe Trick or Treat is co-sponsored by The Smithfield Times, the Smithfield Police Department and participating Smithfield Historic District Businesses.

A town ordinance restricts trick-or-treating to children age 12 and under.
