Ghosts, princesses and super heroes may get scared — but they will be safe this Halloween at Smithfield’s own Safe Trick or Treat. The annual event, one of the town’s most popular, will be held in downtown Smithfield. Downtown businesses will provide treats to children and Grace Street residents also join in the fun with many houses are elaborately decorated for the evening. Following trick or treating there will be costume and jack-o-lantern judging at the gazebo stage in front of The Smithfield Times. There are numerous age categories for children and adults. Prizes for costume and pumpkin winners are provided by local merchants. Safe Trick or Treat is co-sponsored by The Smithfield Times, the Smithfield Police Department and participating Smithfield Historic District Businesses.
A town ordinance restricts trick-or-treating to children age 12 and under.
Don’t miss this opportunity to show your children what the spirit of trick or treating was like…and still is on the streets of Genuine Smithfield, THIS Halloween!”
