Toys for Tots 14th Annual Community Christmas Party
Saturday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Charlie Daniels Racing, 10218 IWIP Road, Smithfield
Car Show entry fee for show cars $20.00 Spectators can bring toys for free entry. Live music all day. Children’s activities, vendors and great food. Santa is scheduled to arrive by Nightingale Helicopter at noon!

Beginning on November 1 and through December 10, local businesses throughout the area will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots.

Firehouse Bluegrass Benefit Concert
Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m., Fire Station 10, 15020 Carrollton Blvd.

Proceeds benefit the all-volunteer fire/rescue service of Carrollton and nearby mutual aid districts in Smithfield and northern Suffolk. $5 admission. Your donations to this non-profit all-volunteer department serve the community by enabling the purchase of needed medical, rescue and fire fighting supplies and equipment. Hot dogs and soft drinks are available during the concert. Please bring your own chair.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Community Breakfast

Saturday, December 13 & 27 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at VFW Post 8545, 223 Washington Street, Smithfield

The Smithfield VFW invites the community to a fund raising breakfast featuring "Salted Fried Herring Fish," scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, biscuits grits, mixed fruits, coffee, juice, cornbread and omelets. Breakfast is held every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. The VFW building is located across from the Smithfield Library. Donation $8. All proceeds go to support Local Veterans and community projects.

Smithfield Little Theatre presents the Gentlemen of the College
Sunday, December 14, performances at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Smithfield Little Theatre, 210 N. Church Street in downtown Smithfield
A true holiday treat, the Gentlemen of the College is the men's a capella singing group from the College of William and Mary. They will be joined by Smithfield's own "Hamtown Harmony Chorus" - a prospective Sweet Adelines Chapter for a program of seasonal and popular music. Net proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Isle of Wight County through the Christian Outreach Program. Tickets are $10 for Adults and $5 for students (all general admission). Walking Tour of Fort Boykin Historic Park

Fort Boykin has been a part of American history since 1623 when a fort known as the Castle was constructed to protect the Jamestown colonists from Native Americans and raiding Spaniards. Today, Fort Boykin remains essentially intact and constitutes a well-preserved example of military architecture of the Civil War era. Sunday, January 11 at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 201 Cedar Street in downtown Smithfield
Solo Youth Recitalist Sterling Elliott, a 15 years old cellist from Newport News, and straight-A student at Menchville High School will perform a full recital at Trinity United Methodist Church. Sterling is the student of Virginia Symphony cellist, Mike Daniels, and the winner of numerous competitions and awards including an opportunity to study at the Perlman Music Festival in New York this past summer. A Free-Will Offering will be taken.

Genuine Smithfield BOB Fest & 8K Chilly BOB Roadrace

Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Windsor Castle Park in downtown Smithfield
8K Chilly BOB Race begins at 9:30 a.m. (all ages)

B.O.B = Bloody Marys, Oysters, Brunswick Stew….BBQ…..and more! All under 25,000 sq. ft. of heated party tents! Hosted by Smithfield VA Events  - the folks that brings you Smithfield Wine & Brew Fest and Bacon & Bourbon Fest. The day kicks off with the Chilly BOB Roadrace, hosted by the Optimist Club of Isle of Wight County. The All-You-Can-Eat party (Oysters, Brunswick Stew & BBQ) is held inside two large heated party tents at Windsor Castle Park and features live entertainment by the Deloreans, all-you-can eat oysters, Brunswick Stew & BBQ, and pay as you go beverages - Bloody Mary's, beer, wine, sodas and water. And if your name is Bob we have a special contest that you won't want to miss! Check out a cozy, romantic hotel package and other fest-activities in Smithfield and consider spending some or all of the weekend.

Mardi Gras Run4Beads
Saturday, February 7 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
The race course begins in Downtown Smithfield at Joyner's Field, behind the Arts Center at 319 Main St., and continues through Windsor Castle Park, returning to Downtown Smithfield at The Smithfield Times.

The only Mardi Gras Run & Festival in Coastal Virginia! Dress up in your favorite Mardi Gras costume and run in the Geaux for the Gold 10K, Fat Tuesday 5K or the Crawfish Crawl 1K! Runners (or walkers) of all levels are welcome. The Crawfish Crawl is designed for groups with young children. Each participant is timed individually. After the run, enjoy delicious refreshments and great jazz music at the Mardi Gras Festival downtown. The festival is open to the public. Browse our exhibitors and shop our downtown merchants for one-of-a-kind items you won't find at any mall!

Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday, March 28 at Riverview Park in Smithfield

There will be breakfast with the Easter Bunny first and then the First egg hunt will begin at 10am for ages 2-6 and the second egg hunt will begin at 10:30am for ages 7-10.
There will be crafts, coloring and games too. This event is hosted by the Luter Family YMCA - Smithfield and the Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation Department.

Ryan Clemens, a distant relative of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) will present his one-man show impersonating the venerated American author and humorist. Ryan, a Virginia Stage Company resident artist, has worked in theaters throughout the country providing classes and workshops. He will be accompanied by Reg Lanning, a banjo player with riverboat experience, who will provide a special pre-concert at 3:30 pm and an interlude during the performance.
